A ZERO-EMISSION ENERGY GENERATOR
HYDROGEN FUEL CELL (HFC) OPERATES IN A QUIET ELECTROCHEMICAL REACTION BETWEEN HYDROGEN GAS AND OXYGEN GAS IN AIR. THE ONLY BY PRODUCT IS WATER.
It is vast different from a rechargeable battery as the later is an energy storage devices or system, but HFC is a power generator. HFC changes the whole world to turn away from fossil fuels for power generation, which has produced sustainable amount of GHG that causes the global warming acceleration.

Among this zero emission power generator, the core power generation components are the electrodes, called MEA (membrane electrode assembly). MEA has utilized a solid membrane as proton conducting separator diving the anode and cathode. Hydrogen is rapidly oxidized on the anode, and transfers the released electrons to the cathode side, where the oxygen from air is reduced. The combination of proton transferred from anode to cathode through the proton electrolyte membrane and the oxygen anions produces pure water as byproduct. such a pure electrochemical energy production is ideal for unlimited applications, including LDV, MDV, HDV, backup power, maritime power, UAV, ferries, and trains. People can ever enjoy a quiet travel or living without concerns of pollution and noise.

As electricity is generated on the electrodes, the electrode materials are critical for the much desired clean energy production. Most such electro-catalytic materials are based Platinum metal due to the extreme acid environment of high purity of protons in extreme acidity. Most transition metals cannot survive PH less than 1. Platinum has become the champion of being a highly active and highly durable material for electrodes used in HFC.

Through last several decades of intensive research and development and engineering, nano-sized platinum particles on some conducting supports have been evident as the most potent power generation materials. Owning to the process, most of such platinum based nanomaterials were/are spherical or semi-spherical, while all the electro-catalytic reactions are gas-solid interfacial reactions. Plus, an optimized size of such particles was discovered around 2 to 3 nanometers. Too small, the particles dissolute fast. Too big, the cost of such electrodes are too expensive. The golden key for HFC is to discover an electro-catalyst that has the right size with best active surface area in its geometric shape. More such nanostructure shall posses extensive durability for the intended industrial application.

Blue-O discovered a plate shaped Pt-based nanoparticles deposited on most solid supports. This nanotechnology possesses extraordinary advantage of cost saving as its plate shape structure possesses undeniable structure advantage for the utilization of the platinum.

More, Blue-O's patented process can prepare many compositions including alloy, composite , bimetallic electro-catalysts with similar plate shape structure.
